Clump forming ornamental prairie grass that was once an important component of the the tall grass prairies.

Features medium green leaves, which turn yellow, sometimes with orange tints in the fall, fading to a tan-beige in the winter.

Foliage clump is topped in mid-summer by finely textured, pink tinged, branched flower panicles which hover over the foliage like an airy cloud. Panicles turn beige as the seeds mature in the fall with seed plumes persisting well into winter.

Seeds provide a good food source for birds.

Prefers medium to wet soils, but tolerates a wide range of soils including clay & dry soils. Grows well in full sun.

Great for group or mass plantings, also effective as a screen, wild gardens,

& naturalized areas.
