Various butterfly larvae feed from foliage, including the Eyed brown butterfly & the Appalachian brown butterfly.

Thrives near water 

Preferred soil types are loam, silt, or sand rich in organic matter 

Grows 2-3 ft tall 

Loves full sun, but will tolerate some shade 

Tolerant to deer, erosion, & wet soil
